Reservoir, an infrastructure provider for major players like Coinbase and MetaMask, announced it will discontinue its NFT services by October 15, 2025. The company plans to sunset its Reservoir NFT API and related services.
The deal represents a strategic departure for Reservoir. The company says it will refocus on Relay, its new platform for enabling token trading on a much wider scale.
"After much consideration, we’ve decided to sunset Reservoir NFT, the API, and associated services on October 15th, 2025. Thank you to all our customers & partners for your trust and support over the years." - Reservoir
Reservoir's Relay platform aims to empower users. It will empower them to easily swap, bridge and buy tokens—including NFTs—between chains and fiat currencies.
"We’re excited to continue supporting the token economy with Relay — empowering users to swap, bridge, or buy tokens (including NFTs!) with any currency on any chain we support — instantly." - Reservoir
In line with this philosophy, Relay fully supports purchasing NFTs as a natural extension of its token utility. This gives users of Relay the ability to participate in the growing world of NFTs, all while staying inside the Relay ecosystem.
The announcement mentions Coinbase and MetaMask, as Reservoir has powered infrastructure for these platforms. Crypto.news also contacted Coinbase and MetaMask to get their perspective on the wider implications of Reservoir’s decision.
We will update this article as soon as we get answers from Coinbase and MetaMask. The update will feature both of their takes on Reservoir’s change in strategy, and how they think it might affect the kinds of services they offer.
